A civilian employee of the US Air Force has been sentenced to prison after scamming the government out of around $1.5 million over a period of 17 years.

Michelle M. Holt, who worked for the Air Combat Command’s communications support squadron in Virginia, was sentenced to 4 years in prison and ordered to repay the sum she swindled from the Air Force, which mostly came from faked overtime.

According to Associated Press, she logged 43,000 bogus overtime hours between December of 2001 and July of 2018. After around seven years of the practice, she was taking home more than her regular salary.

Holt will serve less than one-third of the maximum prison time for the crime, which was around fifteen years.
