A US Airman has been arrested and charged with murder after he reportedly shot up a night club in North Carolina.

Raleigh Police Department arrested Senior Airman Marlon Xavier Cruz Gonzalez following the weekend shooting, which took place at the Mambo 69 night club.

According to ABC 11, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro identified Gonzalez as a member of one of the units on the base.

The victim, Jose Almando Blanco Colon, reportedly walked himself to the hospital after being shot but later died. Police said Colon was from Massachusetts.

Many local residents hold great disdain for the nightclub, which has a history of being the setting for many a violent act.

“‘When are they going to shut this place down?’ is what I thought,” one resident said .”Because most clubs, they would shut them down after the second time, and this is like the third or fourth time.”

Others blame alcohol use and the perception that people no longer value human life.

“”It’s not the club,” said local resident Decosta Alford. “It’s the alcohol. It’s the attitude. It’s people, it’s people in general who are not caring about another man’s or woman’s life today.”
