Airman who was found dead in his home outside Shaw AFB has been identified

Staff Sgt. Justin Strickland, an Airman assigned to the 20th Operational Support Squadron (OSS) was found deceased in his off-base residence March 6, 2019 at approximately 10:00 a.m. near Sumter, South Carolina.

The 26-year-old Airman served as the OSS training manager and was a member of the Air Force since Jan. 12, 2011.

“We are devastated by this loss,” said Lt. Col. Max Johnson, 20th OSS commander. “Justin was a valued member of our squadron, our teammate and our friend. You simply cannot replace someone with a heart and a personality as big as his. Our entire squadron grieves alongside all those who loved him and feel the sorrow of this tragedy.”

While no foul play is suspected, this incident remains under investigation by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
