An investigation is underway following the death of Airman 1st Class Emerald Baskin-Young, a structural apprentice from the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron.

Baskin-Young was found dead off-base at his home in Melrose, New Mexico, on May 12.

He is described as a “selfless servant with energy and motivation for his peers, according to a news release from Cannon Airforce Base.

Baskin-Young joined the Air Force in December 2020. He attended a structural apprentice course at the Naval Construction and Training Center in Mississippi before coming to Cannon Airforce Base in July.

Details surrounding his death remain under investigation.
