US military jet was exported to help train Chinese carrier pilots in South Africa, but how did it happen?


A former US Marine aviator -who was detained in Australia for training Chinese military pilots- reportedly gave false information that allowed an American-made training craft to be exported for his purposes, a deferral indictment reads.

Daniel Duggan, who “provided military training to (PRC) People’s Republic of China pilots” utilized a sketchy “test flying academy” in South Africa to achieve his traitorous goals, according to the indictment documents.

Duggan’s lawyers claim that Duggan, who is currently sitting in jail in Australia, will fight any extrication requests.

“He denies having breached any US law, any Australian law, any international law,” Duggan attorney Dennis Miralis said.

According to the Aviation Geek Club, indictment papers state that Duggan was contracted by a Chinese national to train People’s Liberation Army Navy Pilots in carrier landing techniques, to aid in their relatively new venture into naval air power.

To do this, Duggan not only utilized his Dual US-Australian citizenship to ease travel, but also made dealings under false pretenses.

“The indictment alleges he traveled frequently between Australia, the US, China and South Africa between 2009 and 2012, when he held both US and Australian citizenships. Duggan has since renounced his US citizenship,” the documents read. “Duggan’s alleged violation of an arms embargo imposed on China by the United States also included providing aviation services in China in 2010, and providing an assessment of China’s aircraft carrier training.”

A North American T-2 Buckeye tandem-seat jet trainer was exported to South Africa under false pretenses, resulting in a US export license being issued.

The fate of the T-2 is currently unknown.

During his time in the US Marine Corps, Duggan flew the AV-8B Harrier. Following a decade in service, he moved to Australia and started “Top Gun Tasmania,” giving tourists joyrides in military jets.

He sold his company in 2017 and moved to China, where he became a “consultant.” The company dissolved in 2020.
