Two US Airmen were found dead on Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, and now the USAF is trying to determine why.
Airman 1st Class Xavier Leaphart and Airman 1st Class Aziess Whitehurst, both aged 20, were found unresponsive in a dormitory room. They were rushed to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
“The cause of the death is still under investigation,” said Valerie Seeley, an Air Force spokeswoman. “More information will be released as it becomes available.”
The death of the Airmen come with more questions than answers at this time, as the two did not have roommates and there were no other Airmen nearby when the two died.
According to ABC News, Leaphart was from Georgia, and Whitehurst was from Arizona. Neither were married, and leave behind two parents each.
The USAF is investigating the matter.
Over the weekend, Spangdahelm AB commander Col. David Epperson expressed his condolences to “the friends and families that have been affected by this tragedy.”
